Michael Yuill

When Michael and Maxine Yuill moved into their cold three-bed 1930s semi-detached in Carshalton eight months ago, they realised a lot of work needed doing.

"We knew we had to makes some major changes to the house, and wanted to go down the right route. Like everyone, we do our bit towards helping the environment and made sense to make improvements that were as efficient as possible."

"What really appealed to us was that not only are we getting independent advice that will help us make our home more efficient, but we're also getting reliable people to carry out the work. Without them, how else would we have decided who to carry out the work? We'd have had to rely on word or mouth or the Yellow Pages. This way, we've got peace of mind."

The Yuills, realised they needed to better insulate their home and install a new boiler, and the report following the home energy assessment explained different methods of improving their home with the possible savings potential. "We decided to replace the old immersion heater with a condensing boiler and also to have thermostatic radiator valves put in to better control the room temperature," said Michael. "We only had it done two weeks ago and already feel a difference, and we also know we now have a boiler we can rely on."

The report has also given the family food for thought for the future: "We now want to insulate the loft hatch and are considering having an interior wall insulation installed since the property's wasn't built with cavity walls."

"We've been very impressed with the service and will definitely be recommending it to our friends. The advice is impartial so you can make up your own mind about things, but they are there to help you whenever you need it. It's also really opened our eyes to just how you can lose heat, making us more conscious of what we next buy and how we use energy."
