Through Sky's Healthy Environment programme the company aims to engage and inform people about how to take small steps to tackle climate change and how those steps add up to big change. Integral to this message has been Sky's commitment to tackling climate change and how, as a company, they have taken steps to reduce their carbon emissions operationally across the business.

Over the last three years Sky have reduced their carbon emissions by 27% and have secured electricity generated from 100% renewable sources for its UK-owned sites (delivered via the National Grid). In May 2006, Sky became CarbonNeutral®, the first media company in the world to be so.

Sky has enabled its customers to reduce their environmental impact in the home by rolling out auto standby, a UK pioneered technology, to all Sky HD and Sky+ set top boxes, which automatically turns them to standby when they are not in use. This has so far saved 52,000 tonnes of CO₂, more than Sky's total operational carbon footprint.

By continuously developing new technologies to reduce the power needed by its products, Sky has already cut the power consumption of its new set top boxes by half since their launch.

Sky's involvement with Green Homes Concierge is part of its Environment focus to engage with and provide the tools for Sky customers in London to reduce their carbon footprint and help to tackle climate change.

A key partner for Green Homes Concierge Service, Sky will be communicating with its London based customers and employees about the service, helping to reach the target of lowering carbon emissions in the capital by 17,000 tonnes.
